Who We Are
Graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and now Scotland’s leading young freelance professionals, Arta Quartet’s players have performed in arenas with mainstream acts including Kayne West, Rod Stewart, Susan Boyle, Ronan Keating, Evanescence, Foy Vance, Andrea Bocelli, Alfie Boe, Katherine Jenkins, Belle & Sebastian, Twin Atlantic, Ben Folds & Nick Howard. They also work with orchestras including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Scottish Ballet.
They play regularly in all of Scotland’s leading wedding and events venues including Cameron House, Mar Hall, Oran Mor, Cottiers, Ingliston Country Club, Lodge On Loch Goil, Lodge On Loch Lomond, Dundas Castle, Auchen Castle, Carlowrie Castle, Glynhill Hotel, Duns Castle, Old Fruitmarket, House For An Art Lover, Blythswood Hotel, St Andrews In The Square, The Lighthouse, Crutherland House, Seamill Hydro, Crieff Hydro, Lochside Hotel, Turnberry Hotel, Piersland Hotel, Glenbervie House, Glenskirlie House, Merchant’s House, Principal Hotel, Caledonian Hotel, Balmoral Hotel, Boclair House, Hotel Du Vin, Grand Central Hotel, Crossbasket Castle, Mansfield Traquair and the Signet Library.

The quartet has one of the largest playlists of music in Scotland, specialising in pop covers. Equally at home playing current chart toppers, pop classics, movie themes, musicals, jazz standards and classical favourites, they love entertaining and you can rest assured that they will add something special to your day which your guests and yourself will treasure both on the day itself and in the future. Also they now have over 100 recordings and videos for you to enjoy. They even have a video playlist of trio recordings so you can compare it with quartet and pick what you prefer!
Originally from Edinburgh, Daniel studied there with Nigel Murray before moving to Glasgow to study with Olivier Lemoine and Justine Watts at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He has since played with groups including the Scottish Chamber Music Players, London Concertante and the Ambassador Theatre Group. Additionally he has performed with mainstream acts including Andrea Bocelli, Katherine Jenkins, Belle & Sebastian & Evanescence. He currently freelances for Scottish Ballet and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
Kirsty MacLeod is currently studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Andrea Gajic. Kirsty has recently performed at the Cantilena Music Festival and Festival Music Alpe. Kirsty is currently on the RSNO mentoring scheme and has received lessons from Simon Fischer, Lutsia Ibragimova, Leland Chen and Jacqueline Ross. Kirsty has also performed at the BBC Proms and alongside various well-known acts including Susan Boyle.
Born in Glasgow, Sarah began learning the viola at the age of 8 and studied with Patricia Field before gaining her degree at the RCS with Andrew Berridge, and then her masters at the RNCM with Ásdís Valdimarsdóttir. A member of Live Music Now Scotland, Sarahhas performed in venues all across the UK, Wales and Saudi Arabia. Sarah enjoys performing a wide range of music and has performed with Goldfrapp, Rod Stewart, Kaleidoscope Orchestra, Fat-Suit and Sinfonia Cymru.
Originally from Aberdeenshire, Alice has performed with the RSNO, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. She has also played with the Scottish Ensemble and Red Note, including a performance at the Wigmore Hall. Alice enjoys a variety of music styles and has played at Celtic Connections and has performed with bands such as Fat-suit and The Scott Wood Band.
Emma is originally from Dundee and studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with James Durrant and Catherine Marwood. She has enjoyed masterclasses with Robin Ireland, Barbara Westphal and Garth Knox and the Brodsky Quartet. Emma currently freelances for the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
Anja began studied privately with Uli Fenner before joining the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Junior Conservatoire, where she was awarded the Nan Christie Memorial Prize. Following this she studied at the RCS with Gina McCormack, continuing to play in various projects including the Scottish Opera mentoring scheme. Anja is currently studying for her masters degree on viola with Andrea Gajic.
Originally from Calgary Canada, Emily started playing the violin at the age of 4 before moving to study at the Colburn School in Los Angeles and later at the San Francisco Conservatoire with Ian Swensen. Since moving to Europe she has held orchestral positions in Berlin and Sweden and has now settled in Glasgow. Emily currently plays for the Irish Chamber Orchestra and freelances for various orchestras across the UK and abroad.
Heather MacLeod is currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, having previous studied at the RCS with Andrea Gajic. Heather has played with the Marianne Chamber Ensemble, Melios Chamber Orchestra, Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera and the RSNO. She has also worked alongside mainstream artists such as Twin Atlantic, Susan Boyle, Delta Mainline, and Lou Hickey.
Elias David Rooney studied with Robert Irvine at the RCS before furthering his studies privately with Andreas Brantelid in Copenhagen and Natalie Clein in London. He has appeared with mainstream acts such as Ronan Keating, Alfie Boe, Katherine Jenkins and Belle and Sebastian. Elias works regularly with English National Opera, Scottish Ballet, the Ulster Orchestra and RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
Your music was fabulous and it entertained our guests perfectly. Thanks for being so amazing even though we were running a bit late. Everyone loved the day and your presence added that extra sparkle!
